چکیده

With the growing pressure to substitute fossil fuel-based generation, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) have become one of main solutions from power sector in fight against climate change. Offshore wind farms, for example, are an interesting alternative increase renewable production, but they represent a challenge when being interconnected grid, since new installations pushed further off coast due noise and visual pollution restrictions. In this context, Multi-Terminal High Voltage Direct Current (MT-HVDC) networks most preferred technology purpose onshore grid reinforcements. They also enable delivery shore offshore Oil Gas (O&G) production platforms, which can help lower emissions transition away fuels. work, we review relevant aspects operation control MT-HVDC integration. The approaches topics such as characteristics projects under discussion/commissioned around world, rising challenges modeling Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) stations. To illustrate on designing system network corroborate technical discussions, simulation three-terminal integrating generation O&G units is performed Matlab’s Simscape Electrical toolbox. results highlight differences between two alternatives design network.

Distributed Voltage and Current Control of Multi-terminal High-voltage Direct Current Transmission Systems

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) is a commonly used technology for long-distance power transmission, due to its low resistive losses and low costs. In this paper, a novel distributed controller for multi-terminal HVDC (MTDC) systems is proposed. Under certain conditions on the controller gains, it is shown to stabilize the MTDC system. The controller is shown to always keep the voltages close...

A Study on Maximum Wind Power Penetration Limit in Island Power System Considering High-Voltage Direct Current Interconnections

The variability and uncontrollability of wind power increases the difficulty for a power system operator to implement a wind power system with a high penetration rate. These are more serious factors to consider in small and isolated power systems since the system has small operating reserves and inertia to secure frequency and voltage. Typically, this difficulty can be reduced by interconnectio...

Operation and Power Flow Control of Multi-Terminal DC Networks for Grid Integration of Offshore Wind Farms Using Genetic Algorithms

For achieving the European renewable electricity targets, a significant contribution is foreseen to come from offshore wind energy. Considering the large scale of the future planned offshore wind farms and the increasing distances to shore, grid integration through a transnational DC network is desirable for several reasons. This article investigates a nine-node DC grid connecting three norther...
